"Ceramic” is a term which indicates all industries of the ground and fire: brickyard, pottery, earthenware, porcelain and sandstone. Aubagne produced and was distinguished in the first 3 categories. The ground aubagnais concealing this raw material which is clay, dice the Roman time gallo bricks, tiles, squares of pavement were the very first objects there manufactured.

In 1531, the land register records the first ground potter carrying out of the glazed potteries. In 1666, Aubagne counts 2.000 workmen ceramists out of 8000 inhabitants. However it is necessary to await 1750pour to see to settle true faience manufacturers who will make a production of quality based on famous earthenware of Moustiers, by using the white stanniferous enamel which allows the execution of splendid decorations.

In XVII century, the Richelme faience manufacture only exports with it 12 tons of earthenware per annum in the Antilles. Grosses earthenware jars with the use of preserves are also exported in the Guadeloupe. The traffic is such as a port called one of its quays “the quay of Aubagne”.
